HIV Diagnosis: Brad’s Story

Things have changed since the 1980s when people first became aware of HIV. Through better understanding of the condition, effective therapies have been developed and the stigma surrounding HIV-positive status has been reduced.

Hear how Brad, originally from the US, lived as a gay man through the 1980s. Brad learnt of his HIV positive status after moving to the UK, during a hepatitis B screening. He recalls a time when the understanding of HIV (or gay-related immune deficiency, as it was sometimes known at the time) was severely limited.
